Boba Oats

Inspired by my go to place to relax: GoodTeaStories in Eindhoven. I literally go there once a week and I am currently on a mission to try everything from their menu. As an hommage I made two boba oat recipes: one based on the classic milk tea and one based on my all time favourite: Oreo Sea Salt Caramel Latte. They both are great fall/ winter breakfasts, but the oreos one is something I’d recommend for a regular morning, because I recon it would be too much of a hassle. Nonetheless, totally worth it for weekends.

Classic Milk Tea Oats

Ingredients

  • 150ml Vanilla Oatly
  • 1 tsp milky oolong tea
  • 40gr oats
  • 2 tbsp of brown sugar
  • 20 gr of uncooked Brown Sugar flavoured Tapioca Pearls (like these)

Dishes you’ll make

  • Saucepan (I use a milkpan)
  • Tea infuser
  • Spatula
  • Bowl and spoon to eat

How to make Classic Milk Tea Oats

  1. Make a sugar syrup by adding the brown sugar to a pot with 2 tbsp of water. Heat on low until the sugar has dissolved. Prepare your Tapioca Pearls as instructed on the packaging. Soak them into the brown sugar syrup.
  2. Scoop the tea into a tea infuser. Pour the vanilla oat milk to a pot and bring to a boil. When hot, turn off the heat and lower in your tea infuser. Steep for about 2 minutes and remove the tea infuser.
  3. Tip the oats into the milk and cook the oats on medium heat whilst stirring. Cook until it has the thickness you like. Spoon into a bowl and add your bubbles.

Oreo Seasalt Caramel Oats

The Oreo Seasalt Caramel Latte is my absolute favourite drink from GoodTeaStories and one morning I just woke up with this idea in my head. It is a little more work than the classic variety, but totally worth it.

Ingredients

  • 150ml Vanilla Oatly
  • 40gr oats
  • 50gr sugar
  • Splash of water
  • Knob of cold vegan butter
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp of brown sugar
  • 20 gr of uncooked Brown Sugar flavoured Tapioca Pearls (like these)
  • Soya Whip (like this one)
  • Oreos

Dishes you’ll make

  • Saucepan (I use a milkpan)
  • Spatula
  • Jar/ bowl to store the caramel
  • Bowl and spoon to eat
  • Whisk
  • Bowl for whisking in

How to make Oreo Seasalt Caramel Oats

  1. Add the sugar and water to a saucepan. Heat on medium high, stay with it and don’t stir until it starts to caramelize. Take it off the heat and stir in your cold vegan butter and a big pinch of salt . Store in a jar/ bowl until you use it.
  2. Make a sugar syrup by adding the brown sugar to a pot with 2 tbsp of water. Heat on low until the sugar has dissolved. Prepare your Tapioca Pearls as instructed on the packaging. Soak them into the brown sugar syrup. Whip the soya whip until nice and fluffy.
  3. Pour the oat milk into a pot and add the oats. Cook the oats on medium heat, until they have the thickness you like.
  4. Build the bowl by adding your oats, topping it with boba, drizzeling over caramel and crumbling over crushed oreos.

Although the boba might be too much effort for early mornings, I will probably make some milky oolong oat milk on the weekends and cooking tea oats every morning. Already looking forward to it. Let me know what you think and tag me on Instagram (@miek_eats) when you make it. I love to see your recreations.
